SUMMARY:Mental Health First Aid 2026 Training Dates
DESCRIPTION:Mental Health First Aid is an eight-hour course that gives non-behavioral health specialists the skills to help someone who is in emotional crisis. The evidence behind the program demonstrates that it builds mental health literacy\, helping the public identify\, understand\, and\nrespond to signs of mental illness and emotional stress. \nJust as CPR training helps a person with no clinical training assist an individual following a heart attack\, mental health first aid training helps a person assist someone experiencing a mental health crisis\, such as contemplating suicide. In both situations\, the goal is to help support an\nindividual until appropriate professional help arrives. Mental health first aiders learn a single five-step strategy that includes assessing risk\, respectfully listening to and supporting the individual in crisis\, and identifying appropriate professional help and other supports. \nParticipants are also introduced to risk factors and warning signs for mental health or substance use problems\, and they engage in experiential activities that build understanding of the impact of illness on individuals and families and learn about evidence-supported treatment and self help strategies. \nFor more information and to register\, visit our website at www.bradleyhospital.org. DESCRIPTION:Suicide: Screening\, Prevention and Response for the General Public \nThe first step in effective suicide prevention is to identify someone in need of help. Asking three to six simple questions can help determine whether someone needs help and if immediate action is needed. In this training\, participants learn to administer the Columbia Suicide Severity Rating Scale-Screen Version (C-SSRS Screener)\, an evidence-based tool used by those without specialized training in suicide assessment. Participants also review current national and Rhode Island statistics on suicide; learn risk factors\, warning signs\, myths and facts and local Rhode Island resources.
