Basics of Nonprofit Financial Management

February 25, 2016

If you have felt excluded, intimidated, or unable to participate fully when the topic is money, this session is designed for you!

Effective financial management can unify an organization’s effort, improve its performance, and create new opportunities for impact. Yet, while effective financial management is essential to an organization’s long-term success, many nonprofit managers tend to avoid the topic. Perhaps they shy away from financial discussions because they are intimidated by an unfamiliar vocabulary, because financial and programmatic goals are thought to be in opposition, or because they tell themselves, “I’m not good at math, anyway.” When nonprofit managers feel discouraged from engaging on financial issues, both they and their organizations suffer.

Learning objectives:

  • Demystify financial management jargon
  • Understand the structure and purpose of basic accounting statements
  • Understand the tools and practices of effective budgeting
  • Understand the purpose and methods of financial audits
  • Focus on the drivers of financial performance and avoid the minutae
  • Build skills in communicating clearly about financial information
  • Recognize the value that effective financial management brings to an organization - and its limitations

Fee:  $89 (lunch is not included)
