Many times treatment providers are trained in specific disciplines such as substance abuse disorders or in psychiatric disorders. Because of this it is not uncommon to treat individuals with what is most familiar to the clinician. Unfortunately the inability to treat both illnesses simultaneously has limited more positive outcomes.
This training will focus on the importance of cross training in both substance abuse and mental health. We will review diagnostic criteria for identification of presenting issues.
Special attention will be given to the assessment and treatment planning process which allows for an integration of treatment. A portion of the training's focus will be on case presentation to determine specific treatment modalities.
