This training offers mental health clinicians and school-based professionals strategies to promote engagement in parent-focused approaches to preventing and treating externalizing behavior problems in children. Participants will learn a proactive approach that focuses on building parent motivation for and capacity to coach and reinforce children’s social competence and emotion regulation. Parent skill-building strategies will be modeled and practiced, and discussion will focus on how specific strategies (e.g., role play and rehearsal, establishing behavior plans, video review and reflection) can be used in the context of individual family and group treatments. The training will expose participants to one specific evidence-based approach, the Incredible Years Parenting .
