Description of Webinar: The purpose of this webinar is to provide direction and support in developing media messages designed to raise the visibility of enforcement operations to reduce impaired driving. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), high visibility enforcement (HVE) is a universal strategy that combines law enforcement efforts with visibility elements and a publicity strategy to educate the public and promote compliance with the law. The goal of HVE is to make the motoring public aware of impaired driving enforcement efforts and create deterrence. When the perceived risk of getting caught by law enforcement goes up, the likelihood that people will engage in unsafe driving behaviors goes down.
In this session, participants will:
- Understand the main purpose of creating enforcement “visibility;”
- Identify effective and ineffective messages;
- Recognize the best messages and media for reaching specific primary audiences;
- Learn how prevention organizations and coalitions can create visibility in coordination with enforcement operations of local and state police agencies;
- Distinguish between paid, earned, and social media types.
