SUMMARY:Suicide: Screening\, Prevention\, and Response
DESCRIPTION:The first step in effective suicide prevention is to identify someone in need of help. Asking three to six simple questions can help determine whether someone needs help and if immediate action is needed. \nIn this training\, participants learn to administer the Columbia Suicide Severity Rating Scale-Screen Version (C-SSRS Screener)\, an evidence-based tool used by those without specialized training in suicide assessment. Participants also review current national and Rhode Island statistics on suicide; learn risk factors\, warning signs\, myths and facts and local Rhode Island resources. Participants have the opportunity to practice using the C-SSRS Screener in a safe\, supportive environment through the use of video demonstrations\, case studies and role plays. \nFor more information and to register\, click here.

SUMMARY:Suicide Assessment Using the Columbia Suicide Severity Rating Scale (C-SSRS)
DESCRIPTION:In this training we will review the current national and local suicide statics and trends. We will then review the evidence based suicide assessment tool\, Columbia Suicide Severity Rating Scale Lifetime recent Clinical Version (C-SSRS). Participants will have the opportunity to learn the C-SSRS at a pace that allows for discussion and to ask questions. The content will be enhanced through the use of video demonstrations. Finally\, all participants will have the opportunity to practice using the C-SSRS in a safe and supportive environment. At the end of the training all participants will leave with a thorough understanding of the C-SSRS as well as a list of local resources to better assist them when working with patients experiencing suicidality. \nBradley Conference is designed to provide education for psychologists\, social workers\, physicians\, nurses\, certified counselors\, speech/language and occupational therapists\, teachers\, milieu associates\, and other professionals who work with children\, adolescents or adults.Topics address different behavioral health populations and treatment modalities and are intended to provide practical\, state-of-the-art information. \nDetails:\n– Target audience: psychologists\, physicians\, social workers and other interested health care professionals\n– Instructional level: Intermediate\n– 3.0 CE hours/credits\n– Beverages and light snacks will be offered \nFor more information and to register\, click here.

SUMMARY:The Neuropsychology of Trauma
DESCRIPTION:The impact of trauma on children has been increasingly well understood in recent years. This includes a better grasp on the impact of a prolonged stress response on the brain and body\, impacting physical and mental health. More recently\, research has begun to consider the effect of sub-clinical trauma\, or adverse childhood events (ACE)\, on mental and physical health. There is increasing evidence that when the stress system stays “on\,” the mental and physical penalties can be severe. This is true for both Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PtSD) and sub-clinical trauma seen with ACE. \nKaren Holler\, PhD will present on the impact of PTSD and ACE (also referred to as Big T and Little T) on neurocognitive functions focusing primarily on executive control. Initial review will include a discussion of epi-genetics\, brain morphology\, and neurotransmitter/hormone systems impacted by trauma. Neuropsychological\, psychiatric and behavioral issues\, outcomes and resilience will be discussed as well. Dr. Kavanaugh will review recent research completed at Brown University involving the impact of trauma on adolescents and children in inpatient settings. \nDetails:\n– Target audience: psychologists\, physicians\, social workers and other interested health care professionals\n– Instructional level: Intermediate\n– 3.0 CE hours/credits\n– Beverages and light snacks will be offered \nFor more information and to register for this event\, please click here.
