SUMMARY:Is it Time to Train\, or to Present?
DESCRIPTION:The RIPRC will be offering a training in October called Is it Time to Train\, or to Present?. This training is scheduled to be held virtually on October 26th\, 2021 from 10:30-12:30 PM EST. You do not want to miss this one! \nDescription: This session focuses on two tools of training design: SMART learning objectives and the experiential learning cycle. We’ll use these tools to decide if it’s appropriate to help participants gain new skills and knowledge through training\, or if sharing information is the answer to the problem. The session will be interactive using demonstrations\, vignettes and other techniques to explore the difference between training and presenting. Participants should leave with a deeper understanding of good practices in adult learning. \nFacilitator: Beth Gragg has made a name for herself as a facilitator and thought-leader in designing and carrying out programs that allow people to learn (and retain) new skills\, talk about difficult issues and resolve problems. Having grown up in Latin America and worked for more than two decades in the U.S.\, Asia\, Africa and the former Soviet Union\, she is finely tuned to the ways in which culture\, language and status affect how people work together. Beth has degrees in History and Psychology and a Master’s in International Administration\, with a focus on cross-cultural training. She is above all a practical learner — her Tools from the Field: Participant-Centered Techniques for More Effective Training has served as a textbook for adult education programs in two universities and in dozens of training of trainers programs around the world. It has been translated into French\, Arabic and Russian. \nTo register for this training\, click here.

SUMMARY:RIPRC’s Mental Health Training Series: The Next Step in our Equity\, Diversity\, and Inclusion Efforts
DESCRIPTION:This is the third training in the RIPRC’s virtual Mental Health Training Series! \nAudience: Non-profit staff working on prevention activities. \nGoal: Identify a direction\, significant steps\, and benchmarks for increasing equity\, diversity\, and inclusion internally and in the prevention services provided. \nLearning Objectives: By the end of this workshop\, participants will be able to…\n1) Reflect on what equity\, diversity\, and inclusion means for programmatic activities and organizational efforts.\n2) Describe the manifestations of incomplete efforts of inclusion\, diversity\, and equity at the organizational and service-delivery level.\n3) Identify interventions that can help to become a more inclusive\, equitable\, diverse\, and fair team. \nPresenter: Arman Lorz\, BS\nIn his role as consultant at JSI\, Arman demonstrates a strong history addressing behavioral and mental health\, risk and protective factors\, trauma-informed approaches\, and social determinants within communities of color that shape prevention and treatment strategies. Mr. Lorz has facilitated both in-person and virtual activities with varying demographics\, front line staff\, funders\, governmental employees\, community members\, and community leaders. His front-line experience working in the non-profit realm provides him with ample understanding of the needs of funders and challenges organizations face. Through his work in various capacities with many federal and local projects\, health departments\, community-based organizations\, and health consultant firms since the early 2000s\, Mr. Lorz has been able to explore some of the challenges and opportunities that exist in the current public health environment to address equity\, diversity and inclusivity. \n“As a Mexican\, immigrant\, gay man\, I have experienced firsthand the stigma associated with immigration and identity. I have also been affected – directly and indirectly – by the lack of culturally appropriate services in the healthcare system. These experiences have built a strong belief in me to advocate and foster equal opportunities for Latino communities to thrive. Today\, I’m more excited and committed than ever to continuing working towards healthy environments by bringing equal\, bias-free\, and accessible opportunities for people of color in our communities and institutions.” – Arman Lorz \nTo register for this training\, click here.
