SUMMARY:Using a Strengths-Based Model of Service Delivery (Free in-person training)
DESCRIPTION:The Strengths-Based Model is a recovery-oriented\, evidence-based case management model developed by Charles Rapp and colleagues at the University of Kansas School of Social Welfare. It was developed in the early 1980’s in response to traditional mental health approaches that often focused on pathology and diagnosis\, held low expectations for what people with mental illnesses could achieve in their life\, and frequently used stabilization and maintenance as measures of success. \nThe model has a solid research base demonstrating improved outcomes in the areas of decreased hospitalization\, increased competitive employment\, increased post-secondary education\, independent living\, and other quality of life indicators. The model is designed to help people identify meaningful and important recovery goals and then mobilize highly individualized strengths to achieve them. \nThis workshop is designed to help participants understand how to provide person-centered case planning to help clients reach their goals. Differences between a medical model and a strength-based model will be explored. \nAdditionally\, participants will understand how to use a variety of natural resources including spiritual\, cultural\, community and family resources when developing effective case plans. \nCase studies will be used to demonstrate the strength- based model. \nA certificate of completion will be provided to all participants that complete the session. The certificate can be used to apply for CEUs for various disciples such as social work\, peer certification and more. This training is free of charge. Registration is required. \nTrainers: Eileen Hayes\, President & CEO of Amos House\, has been a social worker for 33 years. She received her Masters Degree from NYU School of Social Work in 1984. SUMMARY:Motivational Interviewing & the Stages of Change Toolkit (In-person training)
DESCRIPTION:We often hear the expression\, “Meet people where they are”\, but what does that actually mean? How can we skillfully do this without losing sight of the forward growth and change that will lead them to their best life? The Transtheoretical Model\, commonly known as the Stages of Change\, describes the states humans find themselves in as they consider\, make and maintain changes. MI is a flexible communication tool kit that promotes connection\, collaboration and mobilizes inner and outer resources. This highly interactive course for intermediate-level MI practitioners integrates the two\, provides practice in identifying the Stage of Change as it shifts and offers a menu of practical MI skills to work effectively within each stage. \nCoffee\, juice\, muffins and pastries will be available starting at 9am. This training is free. \nA certificate of completion will be provided to all participants that complete the session. The certificate can be used to apply for CEUs for various disciples such as social work\, peer certification and more. \nTrainer: \nLisabeth Gutierrez Bennett\, NBC-HWC\, NCTTP Training Director at CODAC Behavioral Healthcare \nAs Training Director\, Beth administers all CODAC training initiatives and oversees the training teams. She is a member of the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers (MINT) and has conducted training for a wide variety of medical\, behavioral health and social service agencies nationwide. \nShe holds both National Board Certification in Health and Wellness Coaching and the National Certificate in Tobacco Treatment Practice. Before joining CODAC in 2017\, Beth worked with over 1\,000 clients and conducted over 8\,000 MI interventions as a health coach. She brings that real-world\, boots-on-the-ground experience to her work as a trainer and administrator. Beth has lived and worked in Asia and Latin America and speaks fluent Spanish.
