Building Social Capital in Prevention: Strategies for Strengthening Community Wellbeing

In this session, hosted by PTTC, participants will explore what social capital is–both its fundamental components and its connection to prevention science–and how social cohesion functions as both a protective and risk mitigating force.

Training Objectives:

  • List the fundamental components of social capital.
  • Describe the current trends in social connection, isolation and loneliness in the United
    States.
  • Connect social capital to risk and protective factor theory.
  • Recognize the role of prevention practitioners in developing social capital.
  • Identify practical strategies and interventions for building social capital in various settings (e.g., communities, organizations, etc.)
