As Clinical Manager with the Maryland Center of Excellence on Problem Gambling, Kristen provides consultation and practical assistance to organizations and private practitioners integrating evidenced based gambling screening, ongoing assessment, and gambling related treatment into their current practice. Kristen is dedicated to helping professionals throughout Maryland understand the impact gambling can have on co-occurring disorders, medical conditions, and psychosocial factors. With 20+ years of clinical experience, Kristen is dedicated to connecting persons in the community and professionals to local gambling resources to aid in those seeking recovery and wellness. Kristen works closely with the Center’s Certified Peer Recovery Specialists to aid in this outreach effort.
Training Description and Objectives
Gambling Disorder is established by the American Psychological Association as a Substance-Related and Addictive Disorder with the highest rate of suicidal ideation and attempts by those who meet severe criteria. The financial devastation and other harms stemming from problematic gambling, and the impact on others, is often overlooked and underrecognized. Having conversations with persons in our community about gambling is fundamental to saving lives and reducing additional harm.
At the end of this training, participants will be able to:
- Understand the signs and symptoms used to formulate a diagnosis of Gambling Disorder using DSM-5 criteria.
- Current research will further the attendees’ understanding of co-occurring disorders associated with Gambling Disorder, impacting the risk of suicide.
- Identify harms associated with gambling and ways to mitigate risks.
- Share resources available for help and hope get help…
