Matthew is a clinical social worker with a specialty in addiction. He also has experience teaching in both undergraduate and graduate programs and for 13 years he worked as an adjunct instructor. Currently, he is the producer and owner of a podcast called “United States of PTSD” which discusses the impact of multiple failing systems and how this impacts our collective mental health. Welcome Matthew!

In this training, we will look at some of the less common and less discussed forms of grief. There will be three major areas of focus. The human animal bond and how this loss impacts us, while also often being minimized by society and sometimes providers. The loss of ideas, concepts, and dreams. This could even apply to the loss people experience when giving up an addiction. Finally, we will look at the intergenerational and societal impact of grief, while being acutely aware of the varied cultural lenses. Each of these can be looked at and discussed through evidence -based research.

Objectives:

At the end of this webinar participants should be able to:

  1. Have a proficient understanding of the Kubler-Ross/Kessler Stages of Grief.
  2. Improve their intervention skills working with clients experiencing three types of loss.
  3. Gain an understanding of how their own process may impact their clinical work.
  4. Gain at least 5 strategies/interventions to incorporate into their clinical work with clients.
