Synthetic Cannabinoids and Hemp-Derived Intoxicants

This training by PTTC focuses on overview of the federal and state regulatory landscape governing hemp-derived cannabinoids, including emerging efforts to address regulatory loopholes and recent legislative actions.
Learning Objectives:
- Describe the federal regulatory framework governing hemp-derived cannabinoids, including the impact of the 2018 Farm Bill and recent efforts to address regulatory gaps related to intoxicating hemp products.
- Identify key state-level policy approaches in Region 1, including recent legislative and regulatory developments addressing hemp-derived, intoxicating synthetic and semi-synthetic products.
- Recognize the acute and chronic health consequences associated with synthetic cannabinoid and hemp-derived THC use, including intoxication, overdose, psychiatric complications, and psychosis.
- Review current public health data, poison center surveillance findings, and emerging trends related to youth and adult use of synthetic cannabinoids and hemp-derived THC products.
- Learn strategies to build capacity within your prevention organization to monitor and respond to rapidly evolving cannabis federal and state-level policies.
