Addiction and Recovery: Dispelling the Myths
July 2, 2019 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm
In the last twenty years, we have witnessed a revolution in how we understand recovery from addiction to alcohol and other drugs. In the past, treatment professionals and the recovery community embraced a one-size-fits-all model based on severe, late-stage substance use disorder and the experience of twelve step programs. Today, we understand that there are multiple paths to recovery and twelve step programs don’t provide the only vehicle for sustained recovery. In this class, Stephen Gumbley will review the current state of addiction research in order to expel some common myths.
Please come for an overview and lively discussion of these and other questions.
This class is open to people in all walks and stages of recovery, addiction treatment professionals, those needing education hours for Peer Recovery certifications, and any community member interested in recovery.
