Building Therapeutic Relationships & Healthy Boundaries

Provides an overview and discussion of the ‘ the nature of the helping’ relationships between healthcare professionals and clients. It covers the components and the steps in building such relationships including trust and confidentiality. Various types of verbal & non-verbal communication techniques are reviewed as well as exploring effective engagement strategies. Therapeutic Boundaries are discussed and illustrations of potential Boundary Crossing. Values clarification and ethics are covered as they relate to the treatment relationship. Concepts of the ‘Power Differential’ in therapeutic relationships covered. The use of Clinical Supervision to manage ‘disclosures/ secrets’ and blurring of boundaries will be covered.
