Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD)

September 4, 2018 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm

$35

*3 Nursing Contact Hours or 3 CEUs: (SW, CD)

Nearly 100,000 newborns in the U.S. every year are exposed to heavy or binge drinking—the highest risk for FASDs—during their prenatal development. Alcohol and pregnancy education must be elevated to a higher public health priority and medical and mental health care systems must better serve all families in need (National Organization of Fetal Alcohol Syndrome).
This course will explore Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) with a discussion on risk factors that can lead to FASD, how the timing of prenatal alcohol exposure during pregnancy affects the development of disorders in the child, as well as ways healthcare professionals can decrease FASD.
