If Only Film and Panel Discussion

October 20, 2022 @ 6:00 pm

The East Providence Prevention Coalition would like to invite you to attend the If Only film and panel discussion on Thursday, October 20th at 6pm taking place in the East Providence High School auditorium. If Only is a short film created by the Mark Wahlberg Foundation to initiate a meaningful dialogue between parents and children, and within communities, about prescription drug misuse and substance use addiction. The event is free and open to the local and surrounding communities. The film will be followed by a panel of experts and representatives from government, law enforcement, drug and alcohol counselors and medical professionals. Panelist include David O’Neill – US. Attorneys Office, Chief Christopher Francesconi – East Providence Police Chief, Captain John Potvin – East Providence Director of EMS Services, Tommy Joyce – RI Governors Overdose Task Force & East Bay Community Action Program, and Debra Parente, who lost her son Peter to this epidemic. Local community organizations will be present with resources and information. Key note speaker, Kevin Masters, from Millennium Health will be discussing important research regarding illicit drug use trends in New England. With Rhode Island, and the nation, experiencing a record high of overdose fatalities and East Providence, along with 3 other local communities named as overdose “hotspots” recently, this topic is as important as ever. Please join us as we raise awareness about the dangers of prescription drug misuse, while encouraging a conversation around substance use disorder prevention, diversion and recovery.
