Suicide: Screening, Prevention and Response for the General Public

July 26 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

Suicide: Screening, Prevention and Response for the General Public

The first step in effective suicide prevention is to identify someone in need of help. Asking three to six simple questions can help determine whether someone needs help and if immediate action is needed. In this training, participants learn to administer the Columbia Suicide Severity Rating Scale-Screen Version (C-SSRS Screener), an evidence-based tool used by those without specialized training in suicide assessment. Participants also review current national and Rhode Island statistics on suicide; learn risk factors, warning signs, myths and facts and local Rhode Island resources. Participants will have the opportunity to practice using the C-SSRS Screener in a safe supportive environment through the use of video demonstrations, case studies and role plays.
