Workshop Description:

With the global view and belief system that cannabis products are safe and medicinal, it has made treatment of substance use disorders more challenging. This training will focus on how to engage the client with a substance use disorder diagnosis and are either still using cannabis or have an intention of returning to cannabis use after they have completed their obligations for abstinence. Participants will be given clinical strategies and examples of effective engagement to help the clients better understand their substance use disorders, mental health, medical conditions, intention of use and how cannabis may exacerbate these conditions.

Learning Objectives:

At the end of this webinar participants should be able to:

  1. Participants will be given and educational platform to understand cannabis for its medical and recreational functions as well as current demographics with the legalization across the states.
  2. Participants will be taught the significance of understanding the global belief system and cultural influences of cannabis use and how it could impact treatment.
  3. A review will be done on the double standard belief that exists on cannabis amongst other substances.
  4. Participants will be given clinical strategies based off of the CBT and MI models to help engage the active user and provide ways for them to eliminate use.
