Trauma Informed Work with Survivors of Human Trafficking/Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children

March 12, 2019 @ 8:30 am - 11:45 am

$59

This presentation will provide a brief overview of the problem of commercial sexual exploitation of children (CSEC) and human trafficking. Best-practices for treatment modalities will be presented through a discussion of the framework for the community-based approach to treatment being utilized by the Supporting Teens and Adults At-Risk (STAAR) Project at St. Mary’s Home for Children. This workshop will explore what trauma-informed care truly means in the context of a social service agency providing services to CSEC victims. It will utilize the STAAR Project model to demonstrate the importance of providing trauma informed services through a wrap-around approach. Topics for discussion will include the range of clinical services and the treatment modalities being used with this population, including: Harm reduction, motivational interviewing, and equine assisted psychotherapy, all stemming from a basis in a relational model of care. Case examples will be offered for discussion to illustrate the model in practice.

Online registration closes on Monday, March 11
