Webinar: Impact of the Games We Play

May 11, 2021 @ 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm

Free
Video games are now the fastest-growing entertainment media, generating more sales than the movie and music industry combined. The pandemic has created and exacerbated multiple risk factors for both gaming and gambling disorder and, not surprisingly, problematic video gaming and gambling are on the rise for both youth and adults. This seminar will discuss the difference between healthy recreational and problematic gaming/gambling, build awareness of the signs and symptoms of a potential gaming/gambling disorder, and shed light on the impact of these problems on children, adults, and the family as a whole. Participants will be provided information on resources for individuals and their family members who are dealing with a gambling or a gaming disorder.
At the end of this seminar, participants will be able to:
1.   Distinguish recreational gaming and gambling from disordered play.
2.   Identify gambling elements within video games that may be problematic for some players.
3.   Identify resources available for those struggling with a gaming disorder.
