The COLLEGE COUNCIL ON AWARENESS FOR SAFE PLAY
The College Council on Gambling Awareness for Safe Play ( CCGASP) is a statewide initiative designed to engage and empower college students across Rhode Island in promoting responsible gambling and safer play practices. This council will consist of student representatives from colleges and universities throughout the state, forming a collaborative advisory body dedicated to education, outreach, and prevention.
The Council’s primary mission is to serve as a peer-led network that raises awareness about the risks associated with mobile and online gambling, while equipping students with the knowledge and tools to make informed decisions. Through student leadership, the Council will help normalize conversations around gambling behaviors, reduce stigma, and encourage help-seeking when needed.
Members of the Council will work closely with campus departments and student organizations—including student activities, Greek life, athletics, and other clubs—to integrate responsible gambling education into existing campus programming. The Council will also support the dissemination of key resources, such as safe play strategies, responsible gambling tools (e.g., limit-setting, self-exclusion, and time management features), and information on recognizing warning signs of problematic gambling.
In addition to outreach, the Council may assist in organizing trainings, workshops, and awareness campaigns tailored to college populations. By leveraging peer-to-peer engagement, the initiative aims to create a sustainable and impactful presence on campuses statewide.
Ultimately, the College Council on Gambling Awareness for Safe Play seeks to build a unified, student-driven effort to promote healthier behaviors, increase awareness of gambling-related risks, and ensure that Rhode Island college students have access to the support and resources they need to play responsibly and stay safe.
