Crossing the Cultural Divide: Working with Latino Youth and their Families

Dr. Lynn Hernandez’s presentation slides: a summary of national and Rhode Island data regarding alcohol and drug use and their associated risks among Hispanic/Latino adolescents.  The underlying interpersonal, contextual, and cultural factors influencing alcohol and drug use behaviors as well as health service seeking behaviors among Hispanic/Latino families are discussed. Recommendations for strengthening and implementing cultural competence skills when working with Hispanic/Latino  youth and their families are shared.
